Every blog needs to have a “why does this website exist” page.
Welcome to mine.
I’ll go ahead and properly introduce myself. My name is Tekoa, the girl behind TekoaTalks. I’m a twenty-something who’s currently living abroad and loving every minute of it. If you told me five years ago that my life would look like this, I would have never believed you.
A Little Background Info
I originally went to college and majored in architectural design, and I loved it. I was sure that was what I would do for the rest of my life. Then, in my junior year, I landed a job at an electrical company as a drafter, and guess what?
I HATED IT.
You heard me right. H-A-T-E. It was dreadful. I only worked three days a week and I wanted to quit every day. Looking back, I think that’s when my subconscious decided that we eventually wanted to be our own boss.
Not long after that, I took my first trip to Thailand and everything changed. I went back home, sold my car, got my affairs in order, and moved to Thailand in eight months.
But wait, the story doesn’t end there!
Now that I was in the “Land of Smiles”, I had to make a living and figure out a stable visa situation. So, I started what every young person does when they move to Asia. I started teaching English. I also started writing ghost-writing blogs on the side to supplement my income.
However, that feeling of wanting to be my own boss never went away. I mentioned to my friend that I was toying with the idea of starting a blog, and she sent me a YouTube video of a college student who was making over $9,000 a month while being a full-time student.
That blew me away. I had been a freelance writer for over a year and a half and helping dozens of people grow their online businesses. For some reason, I had never thought of starting my own.
I thought to myself, “If I put in half the effort I put towards these other blogs into mine, I could do it too!”
So, I got to work doing all kinds of research, planning, and brainstorming. I wrote down every single idea that popped in my head and possible blog titles. There must have been over 25 sheets of paper floating around my apartment that week.
I decided on a name, chose a host, and wrote my first two blog posts in that same week.
Now, my blog has just launched, but I have high hopes and goals for this little blog of mine. I would love to stop ghost-writing and only work for myself by the end of 2020.
Why Do You Want To Start A Blog?
With everything you do, you should understand your “why”.
- Why are you starting a blog?
- What do you hope to accomplish?
- What is your end goal?
Creating a blog is not for the faint of heart. There is so much work to be done, sometimes to the point that it feels a bit overwhelming. However, I’ve never loved working so much! I’ll sit down at my computer and lose track of time just puttering away on designs or blog posts.
They’re not lying when they say time flies when you’re having fun.
If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog, take the plunge! I’m so happy that I did. Working isn’t a chore anymore, it’s something I really look forward to every day.
I’m just getting started with my blog, and I’m so happy that you’re here to grow and learn with me. If you haven’t already, subscribe to make sure you don’t miss any of my latest posts, and follow me on Pinterest!
